Richland Game Art (Character is Key) Week 4

Game Concept Art - Week 4 (12FEB19)

  "Caricature is Character"

Historical Cowboy & Bandito pictures:

Take a historical photo of a cowboy or bandito shown below, import the image to Photoshop, use the Cut/Paste and Clone tools to adjust the proportions of the facial features in the images to exploit the most dominant elements and create a caricature of the person. Push the face as far as possible but don't lose their personality or identity, highlight it!

Photos of Cowboy Actors/Singers:

Over the next week: Take your favorite caricature of a Cowboy or Bandito and draw over the manipulated photo. Simplify the form and details of the face and hair by using thick and thin lines. Be careful no to diminish the personality of your caricature. Finish the character design by adding the torso and legs. Pay attention tot he details of the period costume. Be faithful to the materials and construction of clothing from the mid 1800s.

Your second assignment is to design the weapon and musical instrument of choice for your character. The weapon and instrument should be an "extension" of the personality of the Cowboy or Bandito you are developing and be relevant to the time period of the story.

A Mexican Bandit from the unincorporated part of Texas might have a wide body guitar or ornate fiddle he used when he played with a Mariachi band in El Paso.

His sidearm of choice might be a Colt 1851 Navy Revolver with bull horn grip and a 32 cal 6 shot pepperbox pistol hidden in the body of the guitar.

The weapon and instrument you choose to design will also need a second design as a game input device for the game console. We will discuss the use and application of the input device at a later time.

Write a preliminary LOGLINE describing the backstory of your character.

EMail your latest designs so they can be posted to the blog.
